Taking a Leap
by Margaret Krohn on September 9th, 2014

People always ask me, how did you get into the game industry? It’s a fairly long story, so I’ll spare you the words now, but to sum it all up in one sentence, “I took a leap!” I moved 2,060 miles away from home where I didn’t have any family or friends for the POSSIBILITY of MAYBE working at Sony Online Entertainment (SOE). It was just a concept at the time, but I aced the interviews and tests, and look where I am now!

If I told eight-year-old me where I was now, I doubt I would believe it! It’s a dream come true for me. For seven years, I’ve worked my butt off, helping test, create, and manage SOE games. I’ve learned the ins-and-outs of what every aspect of game development has to offer, but I found a passion for something I NEVER expected to...Videography! I love everything about it. I love capturing moments, being part of or acting out those moments, editing those moments into a masterpiece, and writing scripts and content for various features that provide entertainment for those watching! I would have never found this love if it wasn’t for SOE allowing me to represent their company in front of the world. I can never thank them enough for giving me the opportunity to find my passion!

So without further ado, I’d like to announce that I am moving to Alabama to become
Curse’s new Video Host! What does that mean exactly? I’ll be an on-camera multi-media personality, representing them as a brand, but I’ll also be helping create fun and exciting videos, revolved around the gaming industry and our culture.

Have any requests for a specific video you think would be funny and entertaining, a serious topic in gaming news, a game that you want more information about, or how about gaming hardware and peripherals? Let me know because I want to provide you with great content that is engrossing, relevant to your interests in the game industry, and something that you will happily share with your friends!

Thank you SOE for seven fantastic years! Thank you Curse for giving me this opportunity to follow my new found passion! And...MOST OF ALL, thank each and everyone of YOU for supporting, encouraging and following along with my journeys!

Congrads on following your dreams. I ended up doing the same thing and started college for game programming and advancing computer science. So I know how you feel :)

Nice! It's always great when you get to do what you love. Working at SOE was the same way. I enjoyed it, so it made it feel less like a job and more like life goals! :D

What part of Alabama Margaret? So excited for you.

The studio is in Huntsville, AL. Not sure where I'll decide to live quite yet though. Probably an outer town around it.

Thanks for a short but great spell as community manager. You did more for EQ2 in the brief couple of months, than nearly every other CM put together. Good luck with the new job, and make sure to get really famous one day :D

Thanks Errrorr!! I really enjoyed working with the EQII community! Tons of great memories!
